Justin Trudeau claims Canadian government isn’t ready to hand over tanks yet, but it does everything for Ukraine to win
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday that the Canadian government is not currently considering sending Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
This is reported by Global News.
"We’ll look at all the requests from Ukraine but we’re not there yet, for the Leopard 2 tanks. But we’re here to provide Ukraine what it needs so they can beat Russia," Trudeau said.
Earlier on Monday, advisor to the office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak said in an interview with The Globe and Mail that Kyiv will ask Ottawa to provide its own Leopard 2 tanks and is "optimistic" about Germany's position on this issue.
The re-export of the Leopard 2 requires the approval of the German government, as it is Germany that manufactures this battle tank. Because of this, other countries that have purchased these tanks cannot send them to Ukraine without the permission of Berlin.
