Ukrainian troops withdrawn from potential Russian traps in Kurakhove sector — military expert Zgurets
Defense Express CEO and military exper Serhiy Zgurets noted that in the Kurakhove sector, Russian forces attempted to turn areas near Katerynivka and Yuriyivka into traps
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"Regarding the fighting around Kurakhove, we know that Russia is conducting offensive actions from the north, south, and east. Speaking about the occupation of Katerynivka by the Russians, this settlement was the easternmost point of a pocket that also included Illinka and Yelyzavetivka. The capture of Katerynivka indicates that Ukrainian forces are taking measures related to withdrawing from this pocket that formed south of Kurakhove," commented Serhiy Zgurets.
According to him, Yuriyivka is a settlement located north of Kurakhove, where the Russian army is also trying to advance toward the village of Sontsivka and further toward Kurakhove.
"The areas are being held quite rationally by Ukrainian defenders, with measures underway to withdraw troops from these two pockets that Russian forces aimed to turn into traps," noted the military expert.
