Jeddah summit is glimpse into world without Russia - Middle East Studies expert
Serhiy Danylov, Deputy Director of the Center for Middle East Studies, notes that the summit with the participation of over 40 countries in Jeddah is not about Ukraine: this summit is about a world without Russia
He shared his opinions on Espreso TV.
"The bottom line from the meeting in Saudi Arabia is that people are preparing for a world without Russia. This summit is not about us. Ukrainians need to clearly understand that this summit is about a world without Russia. This is more a meeting about Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil, South Africa, and positioning and leadership after the war. And the main thing at this meeting was that the Formula of Territorial Integrity and Independence is gaining new support," commented the Deputy Director of the Center for Middle East Studies.
Serhiy Danylov noted that when it comes to negotiations, there will be a consensus on the observance of UN principles, that Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state, a member of the UN.
Meeting of national security advisors in Jeddah
This weekend, on August 5-6, over 40 countries met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting was held at the level of national security advisors. As previously reported in the press, Saudi Arabia was chosen as the venue for the meeting in order to try to force the world's leading countries, which have so far remained neutral, to support the Ukrainian principles of ending the war.
This is the second meeting at the level of national security advisors and political directors on the key principles of peace based on President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula. As Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Office of the President, reported on the eve of the discussions in Jeddah, the number of participants increased from 15 to almost 40 after the success of consultations in a similar format in Copenhagen on June 24. Additional countries from the Global South were also involved.
