If Ukraine cedes territories, democracy has been defeated by totalitarianism, more will follow - Ukraine’s Former Foreign Minister
If Ukraine gives up any of its territory, it will set a precedent showing seizing someone else's territory goes unpunished
Former Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Volodymyr Ohryzko, shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"I don't see any compromise, because if we give up some of our territory, it means that international law can be very easily torn into small pieces and made into a big fireworks display. Because it doesn't work. It means that you can seize someone else's territory and then not be punished for your crime. Any aggression is a war crime. It is a crime of armed aggression, and it is punishable. If evil is not punished, there will be more. These principles have been widely recognized and understood for a long time," he said.
According to Ohryzko, there is no chance of Ukraine accepting such peace proposals now.
"Firstly, any politician who takes such a step will not remain in office the following day - they will be swiftly removed from Ukraine. And secondly, it would signify the victory of world totalitarianism over world democracy, and it would only fuel further aggression. I believe that all capitals realize this, but they hesitate to take the decisive step of endorsing NATO membership for Ukraine and warning Russia that it will get what it deserves," the former minister summarized.
