I will propose to parliament that wartime corruption be treated like high treason - Zelenskyy

He made this statement during the telethon on Sunday evening, August 27, 2023.

"This will be a very serious tool, no matter what they think. That's all," the head of the Ukrainian state emphasized.

"But these are not executions, not Stalinism. If there is evidence, the person should be behind bars," the president emphasized.

In his opinion, such a legal instrument should be "used as soon as possible."

"I think that the parliament will receive this in the next week, and then the game is on the side of the parliament," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Such innovations, the head of state added, will make it possible to resist bribery and kickbacks "systematically."

Zelenskyy also thanked journalists who closely monitor and reveal facts of corruption, including representatives of the presidential Servant of the People party. 

"The war did not divide Ukraine into parties, the war divided Ukraine into those who are for Ukraine and those who are against it. We have only one party now, and that is Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The president continued that all those responsible for corruption must be held accountable, regardless of party affiliation.

"I don't care what color the person in the parliament is, what color the person in the Cabinet is, or whether it is local authorities," Zelenskyy said.

And in such cases, the president emphasized, people should be brought to justice "quickly."
