Front line in Bakhmut now runs along river in city centre – British intelligence
Russian forces have taken control of almost all of the eastern part of Bakhmut in Donetsk region, but Ukrainian forces have gained ground in the west of the city
This was reported by the British Ministry of Defenсe on Twitter.
British intelligence reports that over the past four days, Wagner PMC forces have taken control of almost the entire eastern part of Bakhmut. In the city centre, the Bakhmutka River now marks the front line.
Ukrainian forces are holding the western part of the city and have destroyed key bridges across the river, which runs north-south through a 200-800 meter wide strip of open ground between the city's buildings. With Ukrainian forces able to fire from fortified buildings to the west, this area has become a killing zone, likely complicating Wagner's attempts to continue a frontal assault to the west.
"However, the Ukrainian force and their supply lines to the west remain vulnerable to the continued Russian attempts to outflank the defenders from the north and south," the British intelligence concluded.
The illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine is continuing.
