Expert names three reasons behind Russia’s destruction of Kakhovka HPP
Vadym Denysenko, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, noted that by blowing up the hydroelectric power plant, the Russians intended to slow down the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, refocus attention from the Belgorod region and raise the stakes by blackmailing with the situation at the ZNPP
He shared his opinion on Espreso TV.
"I believe that there are three reasons for the Russian troops' blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. The first reason is the Ukrainian counteroffensive and its possible slowdown due to the hydroelectric power plant explosion. The second is that the Russian Federation realizes that the situation in the Belgorod region is starting to get out of control in terms of information and needs to be brought to another level to switch the attention of the entire society. And the third point, the most important one at this time, is that the Kremlin realizes that they have no success on the frontlines and cannot have any, so they need to raise the stakes," said the executive director of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future.
Vadym Denysenko noted that the Russians have the opportunity to raise the stakes with only three things: the grain deal, which did not scare the world, the nuclear power plant, and a direct nuclear strike. Of course, they won't launch a direct nuclear strike, but they will start blackmailing the whole world with the situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP to force them to the negotiating table.
"I hope this will not happen. Today or tomorrow, the UN Security Council is to meet to condemn Russia's actions. It is of great importance that we now win the information war in the countries of the collective West, and especially in China. It is extremely important for us that everyone starts talking about the fact that it was the Russians who blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, so as not to fall for blackmail, raising the stakes of the Russian Federation and attempts to force the world to sit down with them at the negotiating table," Denysenko emphasized.
