"Energy for Putin is not just a tool for blackmail, it is his weapon": Poroshenko on CNN Turk
Petro Poroshenko explains why the world must immediately abandon Russian energy carriers, despite a significant increase in prices. He emphasized: for Putin, energy carriers are also a weapon, a tool for aggression
He said this on CNN Turk.
"Putin doesn't even use energy as blackmail. He uses energy as a weapon. We see this at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The same applies to supplies of natural gas and oil," Petro Poroshenko explains.
However, as Poroshenko noted, Putin is wrong. Because attacking Europe and the world and blackmailing with energy are no longer working.
"All those who accept Russian gas, justifying themselves in the current conditions, should think carefully about one thing: Russian gas is followed by Russian tanks. In this case, the price of gas should not matter at all," Poroshenko believes.
"I have the right to say so, because in 2015, when I was the president of Ukraine, we stopped buying gas and electricity from Russia. We proved the opposite when Putin said that Ukraine cannot live without Russian gas. We showed that the Ukrainian economy is more effective. After that time, no one could accuse Ukraine of stealing gas or electricity. No one blackmailed us and did not turn off valves and circuit breakers at the end of December," the 5th president recalled.
"The less dependence on Russian gas, the safer the world. That's why we have to pay this price once," Poroshenko summarized.
