Denisova urged Ukrainian women to report sexual crimes committed by invaders
Ombudswoman Lyudmyla Denisova urged to report sexual crimes committed by invaders in Ukraine in order to bring the perpetrators to justice
She wrote about this in the Telegram channel.
According to Lyudmyla Denisova, more and more crimes against sexual freedom and immunity by the Russian military are recorded in Ukraine. The rape by the invaders becomes known mainly after the liberation of the territories.
"I urge women and girls to report cases of sexual violence committed by the Russian military, no matter how hard it may be, because this is the only way to bring criminals to justice", the Ombudswoman emphasized.
She noted that according to Art. 8 of the Rome Statute, sexual and gender-based violence - rape, forced prostitution, forced sterilization and other forms of sexual violence - are war crimes that flagrantly violate the 1949 Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.
War crimes include rape, sexual slavery, forced prostitution, forced pregnancy, forced sterilization, or other forms of sexual violence.
You need to report crimes by calling 102 - the National Police; 103 - health care institutions; 116, 123 - National Hotline for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking and Gender Discrimination (for adults) and 116, 111 (regarding children).
In case of staying in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, you can contact the telephone line of the Office of the Prosecutor General regarding crimes committed in the context of an armed conflict at: 096-755-02-40 or email [email protected].
To receive assistance, in particular psychological, it is necessary to call the round-the-clock "hot" line of the Ombudswoman at the number: 0800-50-17-20.
In the Telegram bot @stop_ru_aggression_bot, you can record the war crimes of the invaders.
