Crimean bridge explosions: this well-planned operation will limit Russia’s logistical capabilities, says military expert

The explosions on the Crimean bridge were a well-planned operation that will significantly affect the ability of the Russian army to hold Crimea and provide supplies to the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine

This was stated by Sergiy Zgurets, Director of Defense Express, on Espreso TV.

"If the bridges are physically falling, I think it's not just an information and psychological operation, but also actions that affect the logistics of the Russian Federation in an extremely important area," he said.

In addition, the analyst noted that there is a video showing the destroyed spans of the bridge, which means that the Ukrainian side is likely to be able to carry out such strikes on the Crimean bridge, which does not conflict with the concept of the Ukrainian army.

"Now we, as experts, are trying to determine how this was done. On the one hand, there is the possibility of missile strikes, and on the other hand, there was information that said that marine drones were probably used to blow up the Crimean bridge," he said.

However, Serhiy Zgurets believes that the weight of the drones previously used to attack Sevastopol is up to 200 kg, and even if several such drones of 200 kg each were used, this is not enough to cause the destruction of the bridge spans.

"Therefore, in any case, we are saying that this is a forceful operation aimed at limiting the logistics and supply of all things related to the occupation from Russia to Crimea. On the other hand, it significantly affects the ability of the Russian army to hold Crimea and provide supplies to the territories held by Russia in Zaporizhzhia region," he emphasized.

Zgurets added that the supply routes are fundamentally changing, as there will be an additional 200-300 km of detour along routes that may also be under attack by the Ukrainian side.

"Therefore, I consider this a well-planned operation that limits the logistical capabilities of Russian groups in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine," noted Zgurets.

  • As a reminder, on the morning of July 17, explosions occurred on the Crimean bridge, after which the occupation authorities declared an "emergency" and accused the Ukrainian military of the attack. Damage to the roadway was found on the spans, and 2 people were reported dead. Ukraine responded to this.
