China's UN representative speaks about attacks on civilian infrastructure and threat of nuclear crisis in Ukraine
China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dai Bing calls on the observance of humanitarian law and nuclear safety in the Russia's war against Ukraine
This was reported by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
Dai Bing said this during a speech at the UN Security Council meeting on humanitarian issues in Ukraine.
He stated that the Chinese side once again calls on the parties in the "Ukrainian crisis" to bear in mind the interests of the people, strive to promote peace and try every possible way to push parties to the conflict to resume peace talks and end the war at an early date, which the diplomat called a "conflict".
Dai Bing stressed the need to uphold international humanitarian law, the principle of respect for life, avoid attacks on civilians and civilian objects, and ensure the safe evacuation of personnel and the successful conduct of humanitarian aid operations.
"We call on the international community to expand aid to all affected people and speed up the reconstruction of civilian infrastructure to mitigate the impact of the 'conflict' on people's lives," Dai Bing added.
He also noted that any accident at nuclear facilities could lead to a colossal humanitarian and environmental disaster.
"China calls for an immediate stop of shelling the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, earnest implementation of the seven pillars for ensuring nuclear safety and security proposed by the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and maximum efforts to stop the conflict from escalating to a nuclear crisis," he said.
