Camps for Russian prisoners of war have appeared in Ukraine - Venediktova
Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova states that camps for Russian prisoners of war have opened in Ukraine.
Venediktova said this in an interview with the BBC.
According to her, the POW camps appeared per the requirements of the Geneva Convention.
"We already have them. We have worked on it. We have them because, again, the Geneva Convention requires it. As for prisoners of war, even medical care is provided to them almost at the same level as our men. So I think we are showing ourselves to be a civilized country that repulses the aggressor but does not become an aggressor itself, "Venediktov said.
She added that a specially created law enforcement body, the Military Law Enforcement Service, is responsible for prisoners of war.
"Of course, our prisoners of war have to be in special military camps, and we have worked it out, we have signed a joint order with the Ministry of Defense, The Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other relevant services, but this issue is related to them," said Venediktov.
It will be recalled that on February 12, the Security Service of Ukraine published an interrogation of a captured Russian occupier, in which he confessed about "shooting squads" for deserters.
