Great Britain's desire to supply tanks to Ukraine is a "headache" for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. London's plans to supply Ukraine with Challenger 2 tanks will not change the position of German government.
On the condition of anonymity, two German officials told publication that Scholz's position strongly depends on US President Joe Biden. At a regional election rally in Berlin on January 9, Scholz emphasized importance of discussing weapons with the US president.
In his opinion, supply of tanks to Ukraine must be discussed "together with friends and allies, and especially with our transatlantic partner, the United States of America."
Politico adds that supply of British equipment will increase pressure on Scholz, as the UK will be the first country to take this step.
