British Ministry of Defenсe: demining Ukraine may take decade
British intelligence draws attention to the risks of casualties among the civilian population due to landmines and warns of the long period needed to clear Ukrainian territories
This was stated by the British MoD on April 17.
According to the review, Ukraine continues to receive daily reports of civilian casualties related to landmines. The most affected regions are Kherson and Kharkiv regions – territories that were previously occupied by Russia.
It is noted that as spring comes and there are more people involved in agricultural work, the risk of mine incidents among the civilian population will increase.
“Over 750 mine related casualties among civilians have been reported since the start of the invasion - one in eight has involved a child. It will likely take at least a decade to clear Ukraine of mines,” the message says.
