Britain urges UN members not to provide weapons to Russia, as Iran and DPRK do

This was stated during a meeting of the UN Security Council by the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom, Barbara Woodward, Ukrinform reports.

Woodward stated that Russia was taking weapons for an illegal war from states such as Iran and the DPRK, which she emphasized was in flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions. She further urged other countries not to provide military assistance to Russia.

She added that Ukraine has a full right to self-defense and is resisting Russia's invasion in full compliance with the UN Charter.

The diplomat stated that Russia had the ability to end the war at any time. She further mentioned that until then, the UK would assist Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Woodward emphasized that the UK will continue to respond to Ukraine's requests for means of defense against Russia.

• On Thursday, May 18, Russia initiated a meeting of the UN Security Council to condemn the supply of weapons to Ukraine. 

• Before the meeting, Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, said that Russia had convened it to complain about the downing of its missiles in Ukraine. During the meeting, he said that Putin has two ways out of the current situation: either surrender or repeat the fate of Adolf Hitler, who committed suicide at the end of World War II.
