Mike Johnson may be removed from power if he doesn't put aid to Ukraine to vote
Oleksandr Khara, an expert on foreign and security policy at the Center for Defense Strategies, says that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has been threatened with losing his position
He said this on Espreso TV.
"Mike Johnson is currently in a very uncomfortable position. He is already being threatened that he may be removed from power, like his predecessor Kevin McCarthy. Because his predecessor was a rather unwise man, and in order to get the job, he agreed to change the rules so that any congressman could put the issue of removal from power to a vote. Kevin McCarthy was also removed after he cooperated with the Democrats and allowed legislation to be voted on that did not stop funding the government. By the way, the next one was supposed to be an aid package for Ukraine. This time, Johnson is in a similar situation," Khara explained.
According to an expert on foreign and security policy at the Center for Defense Strategies, Democrats are trying to bypass House Speaker Johnson.
"There are workarounds if this small handful of Trumpists don't want Johnson to bring aid to Ukraine to a vote. There is a special procedure that allows this issue to be brought to the House floor without the Committee's consideration. At the moment, Mike Johnson is being pressured to move this bill forward to allow Congress to vote on aid to Ukraine," Khara emphasized.
- US President Joe Biden urged the House of Representatives not to delay the adoption of a bill to help Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as the cost of inaction is growing every day.
