Russia's aggressive policy makes Moldova a target, says Moldovan Foreign Minister
Moldova has accused Russia of maintaining a negative influence in the country through hybrid campaigns, election interference, and its ongoing war against neighboring Ukraine
Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi said this during a speech at the UN Future Summit, Ukrinform reports.
“The aggressive policy of the Russian Federation and its regional consequences create a significant negative effect for the Republic of Moldova, making it a target for hybrid threats, such as cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, which are complemented by attempts to disrupt public order and interference in electoral politics,” he said.
Popsoi reminded that Russian troops continue to be illegally deployed in the Transnistrian region of Moldova. He noted that the concern about human rights violations in this region is deeply disturbing.
The minister also mentioned the war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for more than two years. According to him, this is a challenge to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries in the center of Europe.
“We strongly reject any possibility of threats of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of any state,” stated the Moldovan Foreign Minister.
- On Tuesday, September 17, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said at a conference on concerns about Russia's expanding interference in the region that support for Ukraine is a guarantee of neighboring Moldova's survival.
