Trump has broken security system and is on path to dictatorship — Ukrainian General

The Trump administration and the United States have dismantled the security system that had been in place for several years

Ihor Romanenko, the founder of the Safe Skies over Ukraine Charitable Foundation and former Deputy Chief of Ukraine's General Staff, shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

According to the general, Putin's long-standing goal of creating a divide between Americans and Europeans and weakening NATO as an Atlantic alliance is now being realized.

"The state and actions of the aggressor country (Russia - ed.) undermine fundamental concepts like freedom and democracy, with consequences primarily for Ukraine and Europe. Efforts are underway to implement the Russian strategies. Trump aims to position himself alongside great dictators, like China's Xi and Russia's Putin, in this division. This is not a Yalta division, but a Munich division approach, with all the repercussions for the global security system," he said.

Ukraine should clearly define its position and engage with all stakeholders — separately with the United States, Europe, China, Turkey, and other countries that can influence the situation — while maintaining a firm, consistent, and resolute stance.

"We are flexible on some issues. We proposed certain economic approaches to achieve peace last year. However, the Americans and their approach is aimed at exercising power in the military, political and economic spheres. Trump is on the path to dictatorship. The situation with our allies is being reformatted. It began with the Ramstein meeting, which was chaired by a British representative, and the Americans used this platform to once again prove their views and show the message of their great leader," Romanenko said.

If the United States halts not only the supply but also the sale of contracted weapons, it won't last long. However, previous experience should be considered.

"We remember that in the past, such actions lasted up to six months, and it could happen again. Most likely, they will find other markets. This issue is crucial for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Defense Forces. Earlier, when supplies were halted, it created a difficult situation around Avdiivka and afterward," he added.

  • U.S. President Donald Trump said he expects Chinese leader Xi Jinping to visit the United States. However, he did not name the date of his likely arrival.
