Some officials in Presidential Office realize Trump's victory means end of their career - political analyst
Political scientist Ihor Reiterovych believes there are people in Ukraine's Presidential Office whose political careers ended with Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential elections
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“I think that the change in Viktor Orban's rhetoric on Ukraine is due to the fact that he has information about Donald Trump's various plans. He's good at adapting to the statements that come from the White House. In addition, there is information that when Zelenskyy spoke with Trump, Donald was very positive and promised to help Ukraine. Therefore, Orban instantly changes his rhetoric. In fact, nothing changes for him in this context. However, he has nothing to offer except statements. Except for his mediation between Ukraine and Russia, but again, he is ambiguously perceived in the European Union.
Poland, which has 5% of GDP for defense, is an economic powerhouse, and they have been buying a lot of American weapons since Trump's first presidency. Poland is ready to deploy US nuclear weapons on its territory. So, Duda has a much better chance of acting as a communicator with Donald Trump and a conductor of American interests in the EU. For us, this situation looks better than with Hungary,” Reiterovych explained.
The political scientist also believes that with Trump's victory in the US election, the political career of some people from Ukraine's Presidential Office can be considered over.
“There are people in Ukraine's Presidential Office who are very happy about Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election. However, there are many people there who realize that this is the end for them. Because they are on that long list that Politico wrote about and that Trump has. Trump does not remember evil, he writes it down. This list includes people who have a specific relationship to Presidential Office, because they are either advisors or have influence on some decisions. The political careers of these people are, by and large, over,” he added.
- Back in July, Donald Trump said that he could force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to sign a peace deal with Putin within 24 hours of returning to the White House.
- On November 9, Czech President Petr Pavel said that the winner of the U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump, might try to sign an agreement with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine, which would hardly be in the interests of Europe and Ukrainians.
