Europe should create its own Army Organization if Trump takes path of betrayal - political analyst
Political scientist Andrey Piontkovsky says that a serious battle has unfolded within the American political scene, while Europeans are not planning to passively watch
He expressed this opinion in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program.
"Europeans won't just watch to see who wins, whether McCaul will push Trump to become the new Churchill, or whether he will reject those recommendations and continue his Chamberlain-like policy. They understand the direct threat to the security of all of Europe. Therefore, Europeans should consider Scenario B. Suppose Trump somehow appoints his Russia-friendly allies, disregarding the Senate's opinion, and attempts to implement the 'Vance-Putin plan' - freezing conflicts and guaranteeing Ukraine's helplessness, imposing a series of conditions on Ukraine, such as no NATO membership, limited armament, etc. Europe wants to secure its safety regardless of the outcome in Washington. I would advise them: if Trump chooses the path of betrayal, it will practically disrupt any NATO response - how will it function when the key NATO member is not participating? I would suggest a challenge to them: create a European Army Organization," said Piontkovsky.
According to him, the leading European countries ready to fight are primarily England, France, and Germany with Chancellor Merz in the next two months, and Ukraine. This quartet of the strongest military states is forming a European army.
"There are also four other serious military powers - Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Romania - forming the European Army Organization, where all their armies will become part of the European army. The goal is to join the already existing, highly effective Ukrainian European army. Finland, Poland, and Romania have a large number of aircraft stationed on their territory," Piontkovsky added.
Alternatively, Trump may listen to McCaul and then propose to Putin not the "Putin-Vance plan," but the "Pompeo-Kissinger plan": freezing the conflict, but with strong security guarantees for Ukraine, including the presence of Western troops. In essence, it would repeat the situation of the Federal Republic of Germany, which was admitted to NATO in 1953, the political analyst says.
"What was criminal from the very beginning about the 'Vance Plan'? One of its conditions is the refusal to accept Ukraine into NATO. All negotiations would only concern a ceasefire and the establishment of a demarcation line. Under no circumstances should we discuss with Putin Ukraine's internal structure, its security, or its foreign policy. After all, in 1953, no one asked Stalin if he wanted or would allow West Germany to join NATO - Western countries simply accepted it and declared that they would protect this territory as NATO territory. The 'Vance-Putin Plan' is a treacherous plan for a frozen conflict," he concluded.
- Serhii Dzherdzh, who heads the Ukraine-NATO Public League believes that Donald Trump’s team is now taking a closer look at the realities of the war and weighing the positions of all sides before possible negotiations.
- U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's team will insist on a temporary ceasefire in the event of possible negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
