How Ukraine can avoid falling out with Republicans in U.S.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy maintains a balance between Republicans and Democrats. He has repeatedly emphasized that no matter who becomes president, Ukraine will work with them

Zelenskyy is currently in the United States, where two scandals involving him and the Republicans have already emerged.

First, Zelenskyy was criticized by Republicans for an interview with The New Yorker published on Sunday, in which he described Trump's vice presidential running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, as “too radical” for advocating an end to U.S. support for Ukraine and urging Kyiv to relinquish territory to Russia.

Ukrainian expert Resurgam believes that Zelenskyy's harsh words that outraged the Republicans are not a mistake.

"I believe that Zelenskyy’s words are absolutely correct. Moreover, this was not a speech where Zelenskyy raised the topic himself, but an interview in which he was asked how he assesses Vance's 'plan,'”  Resurgam stated.

At the same time, Resurgam considers Zelenskyy's visit to the Pennsylvania plant a mistake, which led the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson to call for the dismissal of Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova.

“The visit was clearly part of a political campaign to help Democrats and is clearly election interference,” Johnson said.

"Pennsylvania is one of the key battleground states, where just two days before Zelenskyy's visit, Democrats were running ads targeting the Polish and Ukrainian diasporas. Naturally, Republicans perceive Zelenskyy's visit as a catalyst for intensifying this advertising, especially since Republicans were not invited to the plant. They interpret all this as an attempt to influence the election," Resurgam said.

According to the expert, the visit to Pennsylvania was not intended to help the Democrats or quarrel with the Republicans, as this is not in Ukraine's interests. The visit was organized not by Ukraine, but by the White House. According to Resurgam, the Democrats used the visit to their advantage to strengthen their positions in the contested state.

How to get out of situation?

Resurgam says that, in fact, speaker Johnson is consciously or unconsciously suggesting that the issue be resolved by Markarova's resignation.

"Therefore, theoretically, we can issue a statement that Ukraine does not interfere in the elections - this is the business of the American people. However, if a conflict situation arises, we respect and listen to our colleagues. This would probably be the best option to address the concerns of moderate Republicans. As for Trump, after his last speech, I hope all the 'mythical interpretations' of his plan have finally been dispelled,” the expert said.
