We can never reconcile with evil!
The Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, dedicated to the memory of the victims of World War II, is very difficult to mark while in the midst of a war forced upon us, defending ourselves against a brutal aggressor – the totalitarian regime of the Kremlin, losing our best brothers and sisters at the frontline, and civilians, innocent victims of Russian terror
For us, the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation is an occasion to remind us once again that we can never reconcile with evil! And that some people learn the lessons of history "in their own way," growing in their own impunity, self-aggrandizement, bigotry, hatred, prejudice, and superiority over other peoples. That someone, in contrast to the whole world, which is praying "Never again," is threatening: "We can do it again" and realizes their threats in the most insidious and cruel way.
On May 8, together with the European community, we honor the memory of everyone who once fought against Nazism, all the victims of the Second World War, and we also honor those who fell victim to the policies of modern Nazism - ruscism. Because the ideologues and adherents of the ‘Russian world’ - whether it is the Kremlin tyrant, his henchmen, or his servants in military uniforms, costumes, or even religious clothing - they try to justify the evil they do by outright lying, by distorting Christian values. They are repeating the rhetoric of Nazism, which once sought to justify its own crimes in a similar way. But they will not be justified! Because crimes against humanity have neither excuses nor statutes of limitations.
“The ideologues and adherents of the ‘Russian world’ - whether it is the Kremlin tyrant, his henchmen, or his servants in military uniforms, costumes, or even religious clothing - they try to justify the evil they do by outright lying, by distorting Christian values”
Today, as in the years of World War II, Ukraine is at war with the aggressor, with a neo-imperial, totalitarian dictatorship that follows the worst practices of the past, embodying the hateful ideas of fascism and Nazism. It is Russia that has destroyed peace and shaken security throughout Europe. So today we honor the memory of those who died in the war, those who courageously fought against anti-human ideologies.
We remember because without the truth about the past there will be no future. We steadfastly defend - both Ukraine and the whole of Europe - because we know how to value peace and know its high price very well. Eternal memory to the victims of war.
