Washington finds no signs of US funds misuse in Ukraine
US Treasury Department has no evidence that US funds have been misused in Ukraine, but will continue to work closely with Ukrainian authorities to ensure measures are in place to prevent corruption
This is stated in the response of the US Treasury Department to a request from Reuters.
"We have no indication that US funds have been misused in Ukraine. We welcome the ongoing efforts by the Ukrainian authorities to work with us to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place so that US assistance reaches those for whom it is intended," said Treasury spokesperson Megan Apper.
In particular, she also added that the US Treasury will continue to work closely with the World Bank, as well as with Ukraine and other partners, to track US funds "to confirm that they are used as intended, as well as with Ukraine and other partners to tackle corruption."
Reuters notes that as of December 2022, the World Bank has allocated more than USD 13 billion to Ukraine under the Public Expenditures for Administrative Capacity Endurance (PEACE) in Ukraine program, much of it coming from the United States.
The funds from the PEACE program are disbursed to the Ukrainian authorities a month after the bank's staff has verified that they have paid salaries to teachers and civil servants, as well as pension payments.
