Volunteer who fought for Ukraine detained during protests in Georgia: he was pursued
During the protests in Tbilisi, volunteer Nadim Khmaladze, who fought against the Russian army in the ranks of the Ukraine’s Armed Forces, was detained: 4 people were pursuing him before his arrest
This was reported by the Georgian service of Radio Liberty.
According to the journalists, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the detention of Nadim Khmaladze: it happened on Freedom Square in Tbilisi on March 8, at about 4 pm. On March 8, relatives and a lawyer searched for the man for several hours, and in the evening found out that he was in the Zahesi detention center.
It is noteworthy that Nadim Khmaladze arrived in Tbilisi on the morning of March 6, and even then he was held at passport control without being told why. After that, he was chased by four unknown people.
"He believes that these people were criminal police officers who were eventually detained," the lawyer said.
Nadim Khmaladze is accused of disobedience and hooliganism, while the lawyer and the detainee have not seen the detention report.
"Neither he nor I have seen the detention report. He was orally told that it was verbal abuse, which is difficult to prove - at the time of his detention, he could not have committed a crime, he was giving an interview to a journalist," the lawyer said.
The journalists added that Nadim Khmaladze was one of the first Georgian volunteers to go to Ukraine and took an active part in the fighting against Russia.
