Biden and Zelenskyy highlight historic U.S. presidential visit to Ukraine in new video
President Joe Biden shared details of his visit to Kyiv on February 20, 2023, stating he is proud to have united the world in support of Ukraine
Biden posted the video, in particular, on Instagram. The video intertwines the narratives of the U.S. president and the Ukrainian leader.
It opens with Volodymyr Zelenskyy's direct address, highlighting the significance of President Biden personally witnessing the situation in Ukraine.
"He could truly share it with his people because he was there," Zelenskyy noted.
President Zelenskyy highlighted that it was the first time in U.S. history that an American president visited a country at war that was not under U.S. military control.
President Biden acknowledged Zelenskyy's observation, noting that no American president had previously visited a war-torn nation without military escorts. Despite this, Biden chose to travel to Kyiv to send a powerful message to the world: the United States stands firmly with Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. He emphasized that arriving by train and declaring, "We are with you," was the most meaningful way to demonstrate unwavering support.
President Zelenskyy stressed that Ukrainians deeply value U.S. assistance and, through Biden's visit, feel reassured that Ukraine is not standing alone.
President Biden explained that flying to Kyiv was not feasible due to the risk of a Russian airstrike, and the secret services were concerned about the possibility of Russian intelligence uncovering the plans and taking action.
Nevertheless, Biden emphasized that the purpose of his visit was to deliver a clear message to the Ukrainian people: they are extraordinarily brave, and the United States will remain steadfast in its support.
