'May help restore U.S.-Ukraine relations': MP Kniazhytskyi on European ceasefire proposals
MP Mykola Kniazhytskyi believes that the proposals from European countries regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine could improve U.S.-Ukrainian relations
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“Yes, some European countries are dependent on the U.S., particularly regarding the stationing of American military contingents on their territory. However, I believe that Europe is capable of defending itself if it mobilizes and properly allocates funds. Countries like Finland and Sweden have highly capable armies despite their population size,” Kniazhytskyi stated.
The MP emphasized that European ceasefire proposals are quite specific, and if Russia does not accept them, it will be Russia’s fault.
“The proposals from France and the United Kingdom regarding a ceasefire are very important. When they talk about an army on Ukrainian territory, they mean peacekeepers, but only after an agreement is signed—if such an agreement is reached. What the Europeans have proposed is not about stopping the fighting entirely. Essentially, the proposal aims to halt shelling—ceasing actions in the air and at sea—while negotiating a ceasefire and peace. This is a test to determine whether Russia is even willing to negotiate. From my perspective, Russia has no interest in negotiations. However, the European proposals should help restore U.S.-Ukrainian relations, as they represent a clear and concrete initiative. If Russia rejects them, the responsibility will lie squarely on the Russians,” he added.
