Drone strike hits Syzran oil refinery — Center for Countering Disinformation
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, reported that the Syzran oil refinery in Russia's Samara region was attacked on the night of March 4
He shared the information on Telegram.
"The Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region was attacked, with the enemy reporting explosions. In February, following a previous attack, the refinery suspended its operations," the message states.
Kovalenko highlighted that the Syzran refinery has a refining capacity of 8.9 million tons of oil per year, classifying it as a medium-sized facility in Russia.
"Its products include fuel, aviation kerosene, and bitumen. In 2015, the refinery fully transitioned to producing Euro-5 fuel. It processes oil from Western Siberia and the Samara region. For the Russian army, refineries of this scale play a crucial role in fuel supply and are an integral part of military logistics," he added.
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed an attack on "one of Syzran’s industrial enterprises" via his Telegram channel but did not specify which facility was targeted. According to him, Russian air defense allegedly shot down the drones responsible for the attack.
"Last night, enemy UAVs targeted one of Syzran's industrial enterprises. Our air defense forces successfully neutralized the drones. There were no casualties or injuries. I urge everyone to stay calm and rely only on verified official sources, as such situations often give rise to misinformation," Fedorishchev wrote.
- On the night of March 3, Russia reported explosions at an oil refinery in Ufa. Before that, locals allegedly heard the sounds of a drone.
