White House sets conditions for Zelenskyy to sign critical minerals deal

U.S. President Donald Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, stated that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy should express regret over the dispute in the Oval Office

Waltz made this statement in an interview with Fox News.

According to the adviser, the White House wants to hear from Zelenskyy that “he regrets what happened, that he is ready to sign this minerals agreement, and that he is willing to participate in peace negotiations.”

“I don’t think that’s too much to ask. I believe this is what is best for the American people, for the Ukrainian people, for Russia, and for the world to restore stability,” Waltz said.

He believes that the altercation between Trump and Zelenskyy showed that the Ukrainian president is not ready “to talk about peace.”

“But here’s the problem: time is not on his side, time is not on the side of just perpetually prolonging this conflict. The patience of the American people is not unlimited, their wallets are not unlimited, and our ammunition stockpiles are not unlimited,” Waltz added.

Dispute in the Oval Office

On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington for a working visit. During a press conference, a dispute broke out between Trump, Zelenskyy, and U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.

Later, it was reported that the joint press conference of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump was canceled after the disagreement.

Following the altercation in the White House, European leaders and U.S. politicians began expressing their support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced the U.S. government’s intention to halt financial military aid to Ukraine.
