USA sells HIMARS systems to Lithuania for $495 million
The United States Department of State has agreed to sell HIMARS rocket and artillery systems to Lithuania for $495 million.
About this reports Delfi concerning the agency for American defense cooperation in the field of security.
"The US State Department has decided on the possible sale of foreign military equipment M142 HIMARS and related equipment to the Lithuanian government for $495 million," the report says.
It is noted that the agency for cooperation in security and defence has submitted the necessary certification, which notifies Congress of this potential sale.
The Lithuanian Defense Minister said that the HIMARS systems are "a completely new and powerful ability that Lithuania has never had." According to the minister, the missile systems should reach Lithuania in 2025-2026.
"The emergence of this potential in the Lithuanian Army will raise intelligence, electronic warfare and other capabilities to an even higher level. Several types of missiles will be delivered, including operational-tactical ATACMS, which reach targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers," the minister said.
