Ukraine intel reveals new details of Russian ballistic missile used to strike Dnipro
The missile from Russia's new ballistic missile system, Kedr, which was fired at Dnipro on November 21, contains six warheads, each armed with six submunitions
This was reported by the press service of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU).
On November 21, 2024, Russia launched an attack on Ukrainian territory using a ballistic missile, likely from the Kedr missile system.
Intelligence reports indicate that the missile's flight time from its launch in Russia's Astrakhan region to its impact in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro was approximately 15 minutes.
"Six warheads were installed on the missile: each warhead was equipped with six submunitions. The speed at the final section of the trajectory is over 11 Mach," the DIU described the missile.
A number of Russian military-industrial enterprises are involved in the development of the Kedr mobile missile system:
- JSC Moscow Institute of Heat Engineering Corporation (Moscow);
- JSC Federal Research and Production Center Titan-Barricades (Volgograd);
- JSC Main Special Design Bureau Prozhektor (Moscow);
- JSC Concern Sozvezdiye (Voronezh);
- JSC Research and Production Enterprise Spetsenergomechanika (Moscow);
- LLC Research and Development Centre for Special Equipment and Conversion ‘Continent’ (Moscow).
Tests of the Kedr missile system took place at the 4th State Central Interspecies Test Site of the Russian Federation (Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan region) in October 2023 and June 2024.
Russia's launch of intercontinental ballistic missile
On November 21, Russian forces launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, along with Kinzhal and Kh-101 missiles, at Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense destroyed six targets.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin says that Russia tested a medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missile during an attack on Ukraine's Dnipro on November 21.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia had taken the second step toward escalation with the use of the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile, the first being the involvement of the DPRK military.
