Russian forces executed five captured Ukrainian soldiers near Vuhledar in the Donetsk region
According to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General's Office, the incident took place on October 2, 2024, when Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions near Vuhledar.
Five unarmed Ukrainian soldiers were captured. One was executed in a forest, while the other four were taken to a roadside and shot.
"The killing of prisoners of war is a severe violation of the Geneva Conventions and constitutes a serious international crime," the statement said. Investigations are underway to determine the full details of the incident, with the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) leading the probe in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has sent letters to the UN and the Red Cross regarding this barbaric crime.
