Germany begins preparing for potential war with Russia — media
Germany has started preparations for a potential war with Russia, which experts believe would have a more significant impact on the country than the war in Ukraine
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported the information.
A document of around 1,000 pages titled Operation Germany plan outlines detailed instructions for potential military actions. It lists infrastructure sites requiring special protection and outlines defense and crisis management strategies.
In the event of tensions on NATO's eastern flank, Germany would become a key hub for the deployment of troops, military equipment, food, and medical supplies.
The plan also highlights the role of businesses. At a meeting in Hamburg, Lieutenant Colonel Jorn Plischke advised companies to train employees in skills useful during crises, such as truck driving.
"70% of truck drivers in Germany are from Eastern Europe. In the event of war, they may simply not be in the country," Plischke stated.
The Bundeswehr is also urging companies to develop emergency action plans, including ensuring autonomous energy supply, such as through diesel generators. Negotiations have already taken place with representatives from trade, industry, and agriculture. Similar measures are being organized across the country.
Plischke emphasized that the threat is becoming real already. He mentioned instances of espionage, drone flights, the discovery of weapons caches, as well as attempts at sabotage and cyberattacks.
"Russia is actively preparing for war and could be ready for new attacks in 4-5 years," he stated, citing intelligence data.
In response to growing risks, the Hamburg Senate has strengthened crisis management and civil defense by creating 40 additional posts. The third internal security company, composed of volunteers, has also been activated.
Germany has already conducted the first joint training exercises for civilian and military forces, called Red Storm Alpha, aimed at protecting port infrastructure from sabotage. However, more extensive drills, Red Storm Bravo, are planned for the future, covering transportation and logistics sectors.
