Evacuation vessel to transport Russian troops from Syria breaks down at sea - Ukrainian intel
The Sparta cargo ship, sent by Russia to transport weapons and equipment out of Syria, broke down while sailing on the open sea
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported the information.
According to intelligence, the ship's main engine fuel pipe is out of order. The Russian crew tries to fix the problem and drifts in the open sea near Portugal.
Meanwhile, the remnants of the Russian contingent in Syria have finished pulling out of remote areas and are located in only two places - at the air base in Hmeimim and the naval base in Tartus.
Ukrainian intelligence claims that Russia has begun to move some of its weapons and equipment from the port of Tartus to Libya by sea.
Also, the Russian military in Syria is actively discussing the alleged demand of the new government of the Arab republic to Moscow to completely withdraw its military contingent from Syrian territory, in particular from the bases in Hmeimim and Tartus, no later than February 20, 2025.
This step is allegedly related to the new government in Damascus' desire to achieve the lifting of international sanctions, Ukrainian intelligence explained.
- On December 21, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs evacuated 34 people, including 15 children, from Syria.
