Ukrainian defenders continue to progress in the Bakhmut and Melitopol directions. Ukrainian forces advance southeast of Klishchiivka and north of Novoprokopivka
This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War.
Analysts say that Ukrainian forces advanced south of Bakhmut and reportedly advanced in western Zaporizhzhia region on September 22. Geolocated footage published on September 22 indicates that Ukrainian forces advanced southeast of Klishchiivka (7km southwest of Bakhmut).
A Kremlin-affiliated military blogger claimed that Ukrainian forces slightly advanced north of Novoprokopivka and are currently about 800 meters away from the settlement’s outskirts. This claim generally corresponds to ISW’s assessment of the closest approach of the Ukrainian counter-offensive to the settlement.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces continued to conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol (western Zaporizhzhia region) direction and offensive actions in the Bakhmut direction, exhausting and inflicting losses on Russian forces along the entire front.
- In the south, units of Ukraine’s Offensive Guard have advanced deep into the Russian defense, and are now gaining ground and repelling enemy attacks.
- Russian elite troops currently operating in the western part of Zaporizhzhia have been unable to stop the gradual but steady advance of Ukrainian troops since mid-August.
- Heavy fighting continues in the area of Klishchiivka, Donetsk region, near the railroad that supplies Russian forces.
