Ukraine will use PACE resolution on Russia’s deportation of children to prove facts of genocide in international courts
On April 27, the PACE adopted a resolution on deportations and forcible transfers of Ukrainian children by Russia. Since the document is approved, the PACE plans to appeal to the International Criminal Court to investigate the crime of genocide
Ukrainian lawmaker Yevhenia Kravchuk said this on Espreso TV.
According to the official, PACE first held an urgent debate on the issue of Russia's deportations and forcible transfers of children and other civilians. After that, the deputies voted on the relevant resolution.
“All political groups, from what I can see, support the resolution. The document will be useful for us in international courts in the context of proving the crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people,” Kravchuk said.
She noted that the abduction of children and the transfer of an ethnic group to another territory are indicators that meet the criteria under Article 2 of the Genocide Convention, which was adopted in 1948.
“ Now, when the resolution is adopted, PACE will appeal to the International Criminal Court in The Hague to investigate the crime of genocide, as well as to all countries that have signed the Rome Statute,” she emphasized.
On April 27, the PACE held an urgent debate on the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia. Also on Thursday, there was a separate debate on Russia's role in destabilizing Moldova.
