Kursk positions now more crucial to Ukraine than eastern regions, military expert says
Dmytro Zhmailo, co-founder and executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, believes that holding the Ukrainian foothold in the Kursk region is crucial for the geopolitical situation
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The warehouses in the Bryansk region of the 67th Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces were originally intended for the Sever troop grouping, which is attempting to counter the Ukrainian bridgehead in the Kursk region. To hinder their progress, we targeted the Tikhoretsk and Toropets warehouses with the drones a few weeks ago," Zhmailo explained.
According to him, the destruction of Russian arsenals in the Bryansk region has delayed Russia’s timeline for eliminating the Ukrainian foothold in the Kursk region. Initially, Russia planned to do so by October 1, then moved the date to October 14, and has now postponed it to February 1.
"By February 25 next year, they plan to establish a similar mirror foothold in Ukraine’s Sumy region. So, as difficult as it is to say, holding our position in the Kursk region is crucial for all geopolitical scenarios — even more so than holding our positions in eastern Ukraine, in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Zhmailo emphasized.
- The attacks on military depots near Russian Toropets were carried out by Ukrainian drones. As Ukraine's presidential spokesperson Serhii Nikiforov remarked: “The Russians will be the first to learn when the West approves strikes deep into Russian territory with missiles produced by the U.S. and Europe.”
- On the night of September 29, Russia reported drone attacks across seven regions. Ukrainian drones hit a missile and ammunition arsenal in Kotluban, Volgograd region, more than 600 km from the Ukrainian border.
