Ukraine shows first video of SCALP-EG missile video on Su-24 with Tornado pylons
A video has surfaced revealing the SCALP-EG missile positioned beneath a Su-24's wing, aided by Tornado pylons for launching
Defense Express reported the information.
The French SCALP-EG cruise missile is showcased under the wing of a Su-24 frontline bomber in a recently released video on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's official social media pages.
These cruise missiles were introduced to Ukraine after French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement in early July. Remarkably, they have already demonstrated their effectiveness by targeting Russian installations, including striking two bridges in the occupied territories near Crimea.
A separate video captures the Su-24 in flight with the SCALP-EG missiles, showcasing their airborne capability.
SCALP-EG, the French analogue of Storm Shadow, has been adapted for use with Ukrainian Su-24s using pylons from decommissioned Tornado strike aircraft. “For integration onto our Su-24s, engineers employed customized pylons salvaged from retired Tornado strike aircraft as an innovative solution. A comparable approach seems to have been adopted for the French SCALP-EG missiles, as evidenced by the presence of the same pylon beneath the wing of the Su-24 carrying the SCALP-EG missile,” Defense Express explains.
This innovation is expected to enhance Ukraine's strategic capabilities and provide another deterrent against Russian aggression.
