Ramstein meeting kicks off in Brussels: Key issues on the agenda
On February 12, the 26th Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein format) meeting began in Brussels. Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov shared the agenda. Before the meeting, Umerov met with his counterparts from the United Kingdom and the United States
Umerov shared this announcement on social media.
Alongside British Secretary of Defense John Healey, they discussed the agenda for the meeting, as well as key expectations and priorities for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This is the first time John Healey has chaired a Ramstein meeting.
“The United Kingdom is our strategic ally, as reaffirmed by the One Hundred Year Partnership Agreement between our countries. Together, we are working on the shared security of Ukraine, Europe, and the entire world,” the Ukrainian minister wrote.
Umerov also reported that he had his first meeting with the new U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in Brussels.
Earlier, he reported the meeting's agenda, calling the 26th Ramstein meeting an important stage in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and coordinating further actions of the allies.
According to the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the agenda of today's meeting will include the following topics:
- stable and timely supply of military assistance in 2025;
- accelerating the supply of critical weapons, such as air defense, aviation, and ammunition;
- investments in the defense industry in Ukraine and joint projects with European partners.
In addition, the participants will discuss long-term solutions, such as expanding defense production in Ukraine, financing the Ukrainian defense industry and creating new enterprises, and increasing the volume of arms supplies through the capacities of European defense.
Umerov added that in addition to Ramstein, this week will also feature key events for the security of Ukraine and the world, such as a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council at the level of defense ministers and the Munich Security Conference.
The Defense Minister also plans to hold a series of bilateral meetings with allied defense ministers. According to him, the main goal of these contacts is to strengthen military cooperation and provide real mechanisms to support Ukraine.
“Ukraine is ready for negotiations to end the war. But a just and lasting peace is possible only when Ukraine is strong on the battlefield,” Umerov emphasized.
- The Munich Security Conference will take place on February 14-16. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the main topic of the conference will be the war in Ukraine. Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, said he would attend the Munich security conference to talk about ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.
