UK intelligence explains why Russian forces fleeing Kherson avoid major losses
Invading Russian forces have managed to avoid heavy vehicle losses during their escape from Kherson due to a relatively organized process of retreat
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense on Twitter.
UK intelligence claims that Russia's recent withdrawal from the right bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region has been relatively orderly compared to previous large Russian withdrawals during the full-scale war against Ukraine.
During the retreat, vehicle losses probably numbered in the tens, not hundreds, while much of the remaining equipment was successfully destroyed by the Russian troops to prevent it from reaching the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“This relative success is likely partially due to a more effective, single operational command under General Sergei Surovikin. However, the force remains riven by poor junior and mid-level leadership and cover-up culture. For example, in recent months two companies subordinate to the Eastern Military District fled after their commander was killed. Other officers likely lied in an attempt to cover up the incident,” the report says.
