According to the Russian Baza Telegram channel, the wives of Rogozin and Khotsenko were lightly wounded during the shelling. A total of seven people were injured in the attack. Rogozin assumed that someone leaked the information about his whereabouts.

“We lived in this hotel for the last months, and in 8 years the enemy has never shelled this place. Someone leaked the information, and around 7:45 pm several high-precision hits shook the place, including the place where we were at. They fired with 120 or 155 mm caliber,” the former head of Roscosmos noted.

Rogozin said that he was wounded by a metal fragment measuring 3×4 mm, which entered above the right shoulder blade.

He also reported that his assistant special forces officer Mykhail Brigien was killed during the shelling.

Later it became known that the "mayor" of Horlivka, Ivan Prykhodko, was also in the restaurant, and he suffered a concussion.

RIA Novosti, citing the assistant of the former head of Roscosmos, reported that Rogozin and two other victims were taken from Donetsk to the Rostov-on-Don military clinical hospital.

State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev, who was staying in this hotel complex at the time, told TASS how the shelling happened:

“Around 8 pm, when there were several guests, the bodyguard of Dmitry Olegovich [Rogozin], and his associates, it happened. Three hits. Clearly, exactly to the hotel.”

He noted that he did not know who directed the shelling, because no one outside was invited:

“We stayed in this hotel, it should be noted, not for the first time. Especially on the outskirts of Donetsk, away from everyone, so that no problems would arise. Because it was Dmitry Olegovich's birthday - naturally people came to congratulate him. It is very difficult to ban it.  Nobody arranged any feasts, but people came from six o'clock, even earlier.”

The Russian Federation's Investigative Committee announced that it will look into the circumstances of yesterday's attack. According to the agency, it was probably hit by high-precision ammunition of the Caesar 155 mm self-propelled howitzer.

  • Ukraine's State Security Service established that Rogozin, the former head of Roscosmos and the former Vice-Prime Minister of Russia, illegally crossed the Ukrainian border. “The border guards were not able to personally hand over the protocol to the violator, so it was "handed over" to this person during his birthday celebration by caring comrades,” the press service noted. Ukraine's State Security Service urges Russians not to violate Ukraine's legislation, or otherwise face responsibility.
