Turkey lacks financial incentive to sell Bayraktar drones to Russia or permit their production in Russia - analyst
Ihar Tyshkevych, an expert with the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, argues that Turkey has little financial incentive to either sell Bayraktar drones to Russia or to allow it to produce them
He said this on Espreso TV.
"Putin can ask to build a Bayraktar factory in Russia, but it is not profitable for Erdogan. Turkey does not need to either sell or create a production of Bayraktar drones in Russia, even to advertise its own military-industrial complex. After all, the Russian Federation can threaten Azerbaijan with these UAVs in Armenia, use them against Ukraine - and it is more logical to sell weapons to one participant in the conflict. Or Russia can use Bayraktar drones in Syria, where there is a specific threat to the Turkish military", Tyshkevych noted.
The expert added that Turkey is acting in its own interests.
"Turkey does not take a pro-Ukrainian or pro-Russian position. Turkey will try to rebuild itself as a regional superpower. Accordingly, on the one hand, the Turks will stay out of the conflict, on the other hand, they will be involved based on their own interests. Therefore, Putin can ask for anything, but the production of Bayraktar drones in Russia and their sale are unlikely", he noted.
