Turkey calls on Russia and Ukraine to stop bloodshed, hold peace talks for 3-5 years
Turkish presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın has called on Russia and Ukraine to conclude a truce and negotiate a peace agreement within three to five years
This is reported by Anadolu.
“Instead of prolonging the war, let's focus on the option of three or five years of peace talks. The main thing is to stop the bloodshed. Let's discuss the possibilities of advancing the dialogue given the current situation,” Kalın suggested.
According to him, a long-term peace between Russia and Ukraine is possible only if a new large-scale agreement is reached between Moscow and the West, and this war cannot be perceived only through the prism of confrontation between the two states.
“What is happening in Ukraine suggests that Russia and the West are looking for a new balance of power,” Kalın said, and called on Western countries to end the war.
“Let's make every effort to end the war in Ukraine. The continuation of this war and the expansion of its scope threaten a global disaster. It is important to stop this war and give preference to diplomacy. Efforts must be made to bring the parties to the negotiating table. We need to bet on peace, not war,” Kalın emphasized.
He emphasized that Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan personally are ready to take on the role of mediator in this matter.
