The United States does not rule out that one of the NATO countries will send peacekeepers to Ukraine
The United States will not send peacekeepers to Ukraine, but other NATO countries may decide to do so.
This was stated by US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas Greenfield in an interview with CNN.
The deployment of peacekeepers is likely to be discussed at a NATO emergency summit on Thursday (March 24th).
Poland says it is formally submitting a proposal to NATO for a NATO peacekeeping mission in Ukraine
"The president has made it clear that we will not deploy US troops in Ukraine," she said.
However, Linda Thomas-Greenfield did not rule out that the decision to deploy peacekeepers will be made by other NATO countries.
"I can't predict what decisions will be made at this NATO conference and how NATO will react to Poland's proposal. I can say that American troops will not be in Ukraine at the moment. The president has made that clear. Other NATO countries can decide what they want to introduce. troops inside Ukraine. This will be a decision they must make, "the US ambassador to the United Nations said.
It will be recalled that Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak presented a project to establish a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine at a meeting of NATO defense ministers on Wednesday, March 16, in Brussels.
Earlier, Ukraine appealed to the UN Security Council to establish a peacekeeping contingent to protect critical industrial infrastructure.
On March 24-25, US President Joe Biden will pay an official visit to Europe. In addition to the NATO summit, a visit to Poland is also planned, where Biden will meet with President Andrzej Duda.
