Structure of Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defense system is more effective than Israeli one - military analyst
Oleksii Hetman, a military analyst and a veteran of the Russia-Ukraine war, believes that the Iron Dome is a kind of advertisement on the part of Israel's Air Defense Forces, because they have never been fired at with high-precision missiles, and they also protect a small area of the border, which is ten times smaller than in Ukraine
He expressed his opinion on Espreso TV.
“Air defense is multi-echelon, that is, you can't put the means of the air defense division on one line and think that you can intercept all missiles with it. In my opinion, the Iron Dome is a certain advertisement on the part of Israel's air defense, because they claim one hundred percent protection from enemy attacks, but this is not true and is only a beautiful name. First of all, because there is a rather small section of the border and it is much easier to install a large amount of air defense equipment, because it is ten times less than in Ukraine. Secondly, Israel has never been attacked with the kind of missiles that are used to attack us, namely Kh-101 or Kh-555 missiles, or Iskander ballistic missiles. Unguided missiles are fired at them, something like Grad systems, which are quite easily intercepted,” the military analyst noted.
Oleksii Hetman added that if the same missiles were fired at Israel as at Ukraine, then their Iron Dome would give the number of targets hit in percentage less than Ukrainian air defense system gives.
“I mean, nothing like that was built in Israel, but what we have built is a much more effective air defense system than in Israel. To explain in simple words, they shoot at Israel with junk, and at us with high-precision missiles that have means of combating anti-aircraft. Therefore, we have a very effective air defense system. Also, our partners constantly provide us with additional anti-aircraft missile complexes, and now it is even difficult to list them all. Today, we lack only the number of these complexes, because a certain number will provide a denser defense. Accordingly, the percentage of downed enemy targets will rise to 80% or 90%, because 100%, unfortunately, cannot be intercepted by any country. But the percentage that we intercept is much higher than the air defense systems of many countries, even NATO countries, can intercept,” Hetman emphasized.
