Russia’s shelling only strengthens allies’ support
Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, said that NATO's support for Ukraine only increased after Russia bombarded Ukraine's energy infrastructure
She stated this in the interview with The Guardian.
"Russia isn’t at the negotiation table at all. And so our goal right now is just to reinforce Ukraine’s position on the ground through military aid, intelligence sharing and financial support", Joly said.
She noted that is how they will be able to strengthen Ukraine's position at negotiating table. According to head of the Canadian Foreign Ministry, in the end it will be possible to find diplomatic solution, which "was in every conflict".
Joly also stressed that, despite reports of caution from Western partners regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine and their concern about the speed with which Ukraine is using up its own ammunition, support from NATO remains. The head of the Canadian Foreign Ministry noted that "strong support for Ukraine" is observed on the eve of the summit of member countries of the Alliance. In particular, it intensified after Russia targeted civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.
"We need to make sure that Ukrainians are able to get through this difficult winter", Joly stressed.
She added that NATO energy ministers are already looking for ways to solve looming energy crisis.
Joly recalled that Canada promised to allocate 500 million Canadian dollars for new military aid to Ukraine, which was announced at G20 summit in Jakarta.
International aid is now increasingly focused on items that will help people survive power outages and make them less long-lasting. We are talking about generators and autotransformers.
In addition, over the next three days, senior NATO officials will discuss humanitarian aspects of war in Ukraine. Meeting will take place in Bucharest, Romania.
