Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant at risk of blackout following Russian strikes
On the night of November 30, Russian shelling caused the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to lose connection to one of the two external power lines linking it to Ukraine's unified energy system
The Ministry of Energy reports.
For the third time in November, the plant's external power supply, which is necessary for its safe operation, is under threat.
Currently, the plant is powered by only one power line. If the plant is disconnected from the external power supply, another complete blackout will occur at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which poses a threat to radiation safety.
"For the third time in November, one of the power lines connecting the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to the Ukrainian power grid was disconnected due to enemy shelling. Ukrainian power engineers will start restoring the line as soon as the security situation allows. Only the return of control over the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukraine can guarantee the safe operation of Europe's largest nuclear power plant. Every day of occupation brings the plant closer to disaster," said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
- On November 21, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was on the verge of blackout as a result of Russian shelling, with one of its two power lines cut off.
