Russian forces set up torture chamber Kherson region’s school, hold dozens Ukrainians there
During the occupation of Biliayivka village in Kherson region, Russian forces set up a torture chamber in a school and tortured at least 20 Ukrainians for five months
This was stated by Yelyzaveta Sokurenko, coordinator of the war crimes documentation unit of the ZMINA Human Rights Center, at a briefing on August 31.
Human rights activists found out that four people died in this torture chamber.
"Four of the illegally detained are now dead: two died directly during detention, according to other prisoners, because of torture. Two more died after their release: one committed suicide, the other, an elderly man, died of natural causes. But in both cases, it can be considered a consequence of torture and ill-treatment," said Sokurenko.
Ukrainians were held in the torture chamber because of accusations of alleged collaboration with the Ukrainian Armed Forces and fire adjustment. The people were given almost no food or water, and the Russians imitated executions and threatened them with castration. They were never taken to the showers. There was also a lack of drinking water, so some tried to drink their own urine.
Russians tortured 12 people with electric shocks connected to their genitals.
The people who were in the torture chamber lost weight, complained of impaired vision due to constant darkness, cardiovascular problems, etc.
- In May, it was reported that 11 torture chambers and 13 places of detention were found in the Kherson region.
