Sergiy Tsekhotsky, a Ukrainian Armed Forces officer from the Pokrovsk direction, described the enemy’s assault tactics in the area

He shared this on Espreso TV.

“We see their intentions, and these have been evident for some time now. Their goal is to bypass Pokrovsk and reach the Pokrovsk–Pavlohrad highway, even just its starting point near the first settlement. However, achieving this is extremely challenging for them. Every assault costs them dozens or even hundreds of lives. On New Year’s Eve and the following nights, a significant number of Russian troops were eliminated—calculations are ongoing. There’s fog around Pokrovsk, and they particularly utilize nighttime movements, so we must remain very vigilant,” he said.

Tsekhotsky noted that the Russians are using all available equipment for their assaults, including motorcycles and passenger cars.

“The enemy, in groups of 20 or even 30 people, is attempting assault operations, leveraging weather conditions. Fortunately, we have equipment to monitor their movements, but they use everything they can. They employ all available firepower and move with passenger cars supported by armored vehicles and fire cover. They even use motorcycles—essentially anything that can move—to launch endless waves of assaults. In the past day alone, there were 38 assaults in the Pokrovsk direction, with hundreds of occupiers eliminated,” the Ukrainian officer added.

  • On January 1, reports indicated that Russian forces had achieved some success in two directions in Donetsk region: Kurakhove and Pokrovsk.
  • During that day, 140 combat engagements were recorded on the Russia-Ukraine front. In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 38 enemy assault and offensive actions.
