Russian lower-level commanders hide real losses of DPRK troops in Kursk region – Ukrainian intel
Russian lower-level commanders are concealing the true extent of losses among North Korean troops stationed in the Kursk region from their higher command
This information was shared by Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate.
According to the report, DPRK units continue to face significant personnel losses. To compensate for these losses and strengthen their positions, Russian commanders are deploying new North Korean soldiers to the front line.
On December 31 and January 1, groups of DPRK troops were moved to positions near the villages of Ulanok, Fansiyevka, and Cherkasskaya Konopelka in the Kursk region.
Ukraine's intelligence also stated that lower-level commanders, including department, platoon, and company leaders, falsify reports to higher command regarding the real scale of DPRK troop losses.
"The fighting spirit of North Korean soldiers has dropped significantly. Russian military propaganda is constantly being used to 'motivate' them, emphasizing the 'great importance' of the DPRK army's role in the war against Ukraine," the report noted.
Additionally, Ukrainian intelligence has reported instances of alcohol abuse among North Korean troops during New Year’s celebrations, including soldiers involved in combat operations.
- On Friday, December 27, White House spokesperson John Kirby reported that North Korean troops have suffered heavy losses on the front lines of Russia’s war against Ukraine. In just one week, over a thousand DPRK soldiers were killed or wounded in the Kursk region.
