Ukraine's air defense downs 47 of 72 Russian drones; 24 UAVs lost in location
On the night of January 2, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using 72 Shahed UAVs and other drones. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully destroyed 47 of these drones
Ukraine's Air Force confirmed this report.
Starting at 7:00 p.m. on January 1, Russian forces deployed 72 Shahed UAVs and other drones, attacking from the directions of Bryansk, Oryol, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
The attack was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare teams, and mobile fire groups from the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine.
“As of 08:30 a.m., 47 Shahed UAVs and other drones have been shot down across Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions,” the Air Force stated.
It was also reported that active countermeasures by the Ukrainian Defense Forces caused 24 Russian decoy drones to go off course without resulting in damage. One UAV remains in the air.
- Over the past day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated 1,370 Russian troops. They also destroyed 13 Russian armored vehicles and 20 artillery systems.
